Gala: Genome Alignments and Annotations database
Current limitations

  1. Queries that take more than 5 minutes will time-out from the server. To avoid this, use one of the 2 other submit buttons. For a simple query where seeing the results before continuing to the next step is not needed use the <Add to history page> button. Otherwise use the option <Run query in the background>. The button to do this is at the bottom of the query page, close to the <Submit query> button. This should become less of a problem as we tune the database and query page. Currently queries on genes or CpG islands are not likely to cause any problems, but queries on SNPs, repeats, alignments, or compound queries may take longer than 5 minutes. When in doubt, run the query in the background. See the FAQ for more information on the different ways to submit a query.
  2. Queries are limited to those that will return no more than 50 million entries. A pre-query is run to check if this limit will be exceeded, and if it will, the following message will be returned: "The results of this query are expected to exceed our limits. Please restrict the query to a smaller set." This limit should be raised as we move to machines with more memory.
